After Coinbase added Ethereum Classic (ETC), many Ripple (XRP) investors became frustrated that Coinbase is yet to announce that they will adding ripple (XRP), yet is the third largest cryptocurrency. Even Brad Garlinghouse made a case for Coinbase to add Ripple (XRP) in an interview with Fortune some hours ago. The frustration stems from the fact that Coinbase always gives cryptos a huge boost in value, through increased accessibility to investors. That’s why Ethereum Classic (ETC) is performing so well in the market right now. So, when can investors expect Coinbase to add Ripple (XRP)?
To understand the when, one needs to look at the why it’s not added first. Coinbase has in the past declared that they will be not be adding cryptos that can be classified as securities. A security according to U.S regulators is any system that relies on a central actor for their success. That’s probably the reason why Coinbase and other U.S based exchanges fear listing Ripple (XRP) given that ripple the company owns a good chunk of XRP.
However, if you look at the issue more deeply, there really is no reason why ripple (XRP) would be declared a security. That’s because ripple (XRP) is an independent blockchain that is in no way reliant on ripple the company. Even if ripple the company were to go bankrupt, XRP would still continue to exist. Besides, unlike a traditional stock that offers no utility at all other than earning the owner a dividend, ripple (XRP) has an actual use, and that’s the facilitation of cross-border transfers. This clearly sets ripple (XRP) apart from what regulators would consider a security.
So to the answer the question of when Coinbase will be adding ripple (XRP), this will happen when the SEC openly declares that ripple (XRP) is not a security. Based on the criteria described above, it won’t be long before this happens. After this declaration, it won’t be long before Coinbase and other U.S based exchanges move to list XRP.
Once that happens, it will be a moonshot for XRP. Ripple (XRP) would easily do over $3 in a few weeks. This is quite easy to verify with all the other cryptos that are currently listed on Coinbase. The latest one Ethereum classic (ETC) is already leading the rest of the market in gains, yet it has not been listed yet. Just imagine how big of a deal it would be for ripple (XRP), the third largest cryptocurrency by market cap to be added on Coinbase? It could easily take top position from Bitcoin (BTC), and that’s not an exaggeration. It already has a bigger use-case than bitcoin, and its growing. Banks all over the world are shifting to ripple (XRP) as a replacement for the aging SWIFT system.
As a ripple (XRP) investor, this is the best time to stock up on some XRP, while it’s still lowly priced. The moment the announcement comes out that ripple (XRP) is not a security, it will be the last time you will see these low prices of less than a dollar, for good.
